Would this be 100% legal?

If I were to gather the first and last name and phone number of every person who shouts a racial slur at me and post this info online on a civil rights website, would this be illegal, or an invasion of privacy?

If so, what can I do as recompense? Nothing?

BTW, I'm not talking about here, I'm talking about being out and in public. I was thinking of asking their first and last name after they're done harassing me, and I know they would tell me because they don't want to appear afraid.

there are mixed rulings I think in cases involving anti-abortion radicals posting names and addresses of doctors and others, and similar cases.

Probably an open question depending on the specifics, but eventually these types of cases will make it the supreme court.

I don't think privacy is the big issue in your description - slander and liability, plus maybe provoking violence should that happen are far more serious issues for you.

How would you gather such information in the first place? If they are doing the shouting in public, and you get the information legally, then it would be legal.

I would be curious as how you would get their info.... "hey can i get your name and number?" good luck with that :p

I think the phone number part would be illegal, your best bet, just take a photography of the person, type what racial slur they called you. there is a website for women that take pictures of guys that stare at them, so you could start a similar one for racial slurs.

how would get there info?
would run them through a data base?
would you follow them to their house?
go through their trash?
run their tag?

if yes to any of these is illegal unless you have the legal right to do so which you do not...racial slurs are words..if you don't like being commented about or called names...then lock your self in a room and don't ever come out...or find a cave which I'm sure you can and go hide in there...get over it, people call people racial names all the time it wont stop there's nothing you can do about it. its freedom of speech unless it causes a harmful event such a rioting which then will he handled by law enforcement...not you. let it go

It probably is legal if the information comes through legal channels but be careful because these people could come back and sue you for slander.

It would be legal to post their name and phone number. Anything said about them or hints of retaliation on said website though could come back to bite you in the butt bigtime.

Maybe you should take the towel off your head. If that is not the reason for the harassment, is there anything else that makes you look stupid, like a target for harassment, possibly a red dot on your head or something else that's dumb?
