Question about housing discrimination?

Would it be legal for a church in California (non-profit organization with IRS) to build a senior retirement home on its own property adjacent to the church and restrict it to its own members? Since it is a church, this would effectively restrict it to members of a particular religion.

I'm trying to find out how the Civil Rights Act would apply here, or any FHA policy or state laws.

It probably can be done, but it depends on your legal documentation with the IRS and the state. Churches are generally allowed to offer services only to their members.

Take all of the church's corporate and tax documents to a business and tax lawyer for a full review.

yes they have that right just like someone has a right to make a senior citizens home. Or a single parents home.

According to the church they are required by the bible to take care of "thier" elders. Just like a family memmber.
