As an ex-con (felony DUI) who would like to get married, can this affect my fiance's child custody rights?

NO one was injured as a result of my felony DUI....Also, I was a respected member of the community prior to the conviction. Otherwise, I have no record. My fiance's ex has been chronically delinquent in child support and has rarely had visits with his son. Even so, we both feel he'll use my record to hurt his ex, because that's just the sort of fine human being he is. Any help, or suggestions on who to contact with this issue is much appreciated.

you could by Adding your situation effect the positive outcome had she stood alone against her bad-half.
if it looks like one party can get custody without you at first, then maybe let that happen an adopt later.

i have no legal experience. ..as if.. good luck

Yes it can. And the child's father has every right to be concerned to the point of asking the court to limit your contact with the child in tranporting the child.

The father's child support or visitation issues has no bearing on his exercise of other legal rights.

It has nothing to do with her custody. You may have went to jail for a DUI but you didnt not hurt anyone. But the father being behind on his chil support has nothing to do with it . That is up to the courts to go after him.
But i am not really understand why you are a ex-con for a DUI.
How many did you have before you went to prison or did you just go to jail for it?
Now if you want to put that child in a car and you dont have the legal right to drive then that is when the father or the state can get into it and she will lose her child . So think about that before you ever do anything stuipd.
And if you are still drinking you need to get help and stop . That is the worse thing a child could ever go through. And if she is a good mom and no i am not trying to be mean she wouldnt marry you until you stopped drinking. Think about the child.
Good luck

It is possible for the ex to request a change in custody orders, claiming that the child is in danger with you around.

Whether that argument works or not depends on the circumstances of your conviction, among other things.

Contact a family law attorney in your area for advice.
