I believe I have a cause for defamation, UK only thanks.?

A few years ago I was accused, by way of reply for non payment, by a general aviation company, of incompetence.
This was rich as within days of joining the company I realised it was in breech of normal maintenance & safety standards and had made my feelings known!

I had been asked to stay on after my initial contract ended and agreed to stay a further 3 months in order to help bring things in line.

In short it took me a year to get the information I needed to prove I was in no way incompetent and have since requested a retraction from the individual who had made the accusations, so far I have not received a reply.

Should I make all the facts public it will be more damaging for the company and other individuals however I will be damned if I will be falsely accused after more than thirty years in aviation maintenance. What is worse I took my concerns to the top and was ignored. I have my feeling about a recent accident but once again they appear to have fallen on deaf ears!

It was made to the court (in writing) as reason for non payment.

Was your so called defamation of character made in public? If so, you could ask for a retraction, although I think you will be pissing into the wind if you think you will get it.

If you make public your knowledge of the company, you may open yourself to a libel lawsuit.

Speak to a solicitor you might have a case. Sometimes you have a free legal helpline on your home insurance.

Forget it. It was years back. Move on.

For there to be any possibility of this counting as defamation (i.e. either libel or slander):

1) The accusation must have been public. If it was a letter sent only to you, or only circulated within the company, it is unlikely to be defamatory.

2) You must be able to show that you have suffered some quantifiable loss as a result, otherwise a court will consider that since there has been no harm there is no need for any remedy. Did the accusation harm your job prospects?
