How come people can take our freedom of speach away?

For instance, here on Yahoo Answers we don't actually have freedom of speech. I realize that it is its own "citizens" that censor "themselves", but it's not like the appeals system works. Also, I imagine this being an issue in many many places.

I some what agree with Patrick G. He is correct in what the purpose and context of the Constitution is. However, I believe you mean in a general context and not just Yahoo Answers.

I think it is because the Constitution and the events leading up to the Revolution are not taught in government schools anymore. If people do not understand why we were founded, they will not appreciate the liberties we were given.

Society has given in to Political Correctness to save offending other's "feelings". Our Founder's would be disgusted at how we have traded our liberty and dignity for a "feeling" of security and compassion.

If we would start to use discretion and logical thought instead of fear and feelings, we might be able to save this Republic, regain some of the lost liberties and bring back the original purpose of the Constitution (limiting government).

Not a day goes by that this question in some form isn't asked.

Please do yourself a favor and try to understand that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights detail what the GOVERNMENT is limited by.

Yahoo is a private company, you have no Constitutional agreement with Yahoo.

Your first amedment right protects you against recrimination by the government should you choose to speak out against the government.

For example.... you could walk into my house, declare that you have a constitutional right to freedom of speech and proceed to call my wife a bad name.... Your first amendment right does not protect you from getting punched in the nose in response to your statement.

You have a constitutional right to freedom of expression when you are expressing yourself to the government. Nothing more.

Have you actually read the Constitution? You really should.

According to the Terms of Service you agreed to, you have a responsibility to stick to non-offensive and non-abusive behavior. Sorry to tell you, but you signed away your rights to Freedom of Speech when you signed up.

As is the case with most Freedoms nowadays- they're not taken away from you, but rather, you've given them away freely.

What the heck did you want to say? You can't run into a federal building and yell "Bomb". A lot of this is entertainment. You have a right to not reply, or read anything that makes you react in a way that yahoo feels you need to be censored. My children don't have the right to swear to me. That's my constitution. Ask them. However they do, now, express themselves in a manner that makes me listen without creating hostility. Most cuss words are single syllables, because complex thought or language is not really possible when your cussing or trying to express disdain with anger. Peace.

Yahoo is a PRIVATE CORPORATION, they are not forced to follow the Constitution. Congress shall make no laws abridging our freedom of speech, that is a reference to PUBLIC property, not PRIVATE.

If you offend somebody in anyway, it will automaicaly be deleted in order to keep the majority of people happy. There really is no freedom of speech unless your willing to take the consequences.
