Writ of mandamus against USCIS alone?or with a lawyer?

I have a pending case with USCIS since a year and here in California specially in L.A cases like mine are processed very fast.
I want to do a writ or mandamus and put some pressure on them as they are lagging and making me wait for no reason.

I want to know how possibly I can do this by myself as I cant afford to hire a lawyer for now, can I go ahead and file it and then if I end up going to court then hire a lawyer later on?

Please do not reply if you dont have any experience with the writ of mandamus and I m not looking for the definition of it, I already know it, thanks

You probably want a writ of procedendo. That is the writ to compel someone to proceed, to decide a case. It is never granted, but just the filing of it will often move a case along. You can write it yourself and filed it in the u.s. district court. Such petitions generally require personal service on the respondent, and you generally have to identify some specific person as the respondent in order to effect that service. Whether it is a good idea or not is another question.
