Adoption laws? I give best answer!?

So I'm writing this story/script and have run into a roadblock. I need to know, in detail, how this scenario would work;

If the parents in England die suddenly, leaving their 2 16-year-old kids to their only relatives, which in America, how would laws and all that work? How long would it take for the kids to be adopted and to get over there? What if the relatives had no ideas of the kdis existence before the death of the parents? I give best answer!!!

I don't know about custody and adoption laws in England except that they are similar to ours because our law came from them.

Your scenario does say that the parents leave the kids to their only relatives in America, which leads me to believe that perhaps they did have a will of some kind. That being the case, then the English courts would try to locate the relatives and find out if they are willing to accept the placement. There would be immigration laws to consider as well. The relatives could probably prepare the adoption papers in America after the initial placement from Britain has been completed.

Parents can't leave children to other people by will. Some relative or responsible adult will have to qualify with the court to become their legal guardian. It is possible for overseas residents to do so IF the local court approves. The major problem with having US individuals become guardians will not be their qualifications -- but our exclusionary immigration laws.
