Why abortion and not adoption?

During my first political campaign I published the following pledge on my web site:

Dear Mr. Hendrix
This letter is to certify my personal opposition to the availability of abortion on demand as a practice of birth control in the Untied States.

I pledge to spend and equal amount of time, effort, and money between protesting abortion and establishing an effective, balanced, and comprehensive system of sex education, either in public schools, or private institutions.

This cause is so important to me that I pledge to feed, house, clothe, provide medical care, and otherwise support a single, pregnant woman of your choosing. I also pledge to adopt the child at birth regardless of its health.

This pledge was first published durning the 2004 U.S. Senate Republican Primary Campaign. I received hundreds of pre-printed cards and letters in protest of the availability of abortion on demand in the United States. These cards claimed that over a million babies are killed each year in this country. According to my rough calculations that means that 1 in every 100 women of reproductive age has an unwanted pregnancy every year. In ten years that equals one in ten. In twenty years, it's one in five. Something is seriously wrong here. However, only two took their cause seriously enough to take the pledge and send it to me. This makes me wonder. . .

i agree. i think it is better to bring the child to term and give it up for adoption.

some women can not afford to be pregnant, they would have to quit their jobs, have insurance to provide adequate prenatal care, and have other children to take care of
pregnancy is not always a desirable condition, and some women can die from it

6.7 billion people here already; how many pro-lifers are stepping up to adopt all the un-aborted babies after they're born? How many more people do we need on this rockball?

Abortion is a crime and adoption is the best alternative!!
Every baby deserves a birthday! Christmas presents, an Easter Basket, Halloween candy...etc!!

With better social services and nationalized health care, maybe?

i think you should find out how many children are in orphanages and for how long. a lot of them never get adopted, they grow up miserable, and they will always feel left out in the world. to know that will make that child suffer even more than your suffering if you did decide to abort.

Some woman have health issues where they can't carry a child full term. Also, if a woman is raped and becomes pregnant due to it. The lady decides to give the baby up for adoption. 20 years later that kid comes looking for the mother. Sorry but I wouldn't want to be reminded of being raped.

I agree with many posters that state that the anti-abortion crowd needs to step up and offer adoption as an alternative.

I am personally opposed to abortion but then I don't have the right to dictate this view on another person. This is not a legal issue but one that must be decided by the individual on personal moral grounds.

The people who feel that abortion is wrong need to show the supposed love they feel and adopt. TODAY!

I adopted 2 children, so I'm definitely pro-adoption. I realize that it's impractical for some women to carry a baby to term. if the baby is a result of rape or incest, she shouldn't have to have that daily reminder of what happened to her. if she can give birth and wants to give the baby to someone else to raise, then she should. if she can't or chooses not to, she shouldn't be pressured into it. we're already have a hard time finding homes for all the unwanted or neglected children. I don't see prolifers adopting anyone.

You're right, every woman that is raped or a victim of incest should have to carry that baby to term. GREAT IDEA.

It's a personal choice. In the end it all boils down to whether or not YOU can live with yourself. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or says. People are ignorant to others choices, but when it's them, it's a whole different game. Their are millions of reasons to abort and there are just as many reasons to not. As long as it's not being used as a form of birth control (cause that's terrible) then who cares what someone else thinks.

why bring in to this over crowed world unwanted births

these born unwanted have a better chance of being the next generation of hoodlums than some ideal adopted child

Perhaps we can get science to the point of getting a few cells and let it develop in a test tube or implanted in to a host mom- guess you will do.
