Do all adoptions require a home study? |
For example- Non custodial parent- severed parental rights. So the child is all mine. My husband wants to adpot her and has raised her as his for the past 3 years. Me, being her mom, can I have my husband adopt her or does there still have to be a home study written? Step parent adoption does not require a home study. As the childs mother you are agreeing and saying that the home is fit for the child to live in. Unlike, when you try to bring a outside child into a home that the state has to make sure is fit for the child to live in. From what I have heard, if the adoption in within the immediate family (brother, sister, step parent, grand father/mother) no home study is needed. Otherwise all adaptions, local and international need one yeah, there has to be a home study but i can't imagine what you would have to worry about. it is pretty painless. The will do a home visit but as long as you have a safe, loving home it will only help you with the adoption process. not all but some do require a home study |
