Child adoption?

Anyone knows about this? I'm currently here with a student visa. My aunt, who is a citizen, wants to adopt me as her child.. If she claims my adoption, do I have to give up my student visa? What are the requirements for adoption? is it a difficult process? I am turning 17 end of this year.. is it still difficult? thanks. please help me asap.

If the adoption is successful, you wouldn't NEED a student visa. The student visa is what allows you to be here. If you are adopted, you automatically become a citizen and no longer need the visa to be here.

However adoption is a long process. Also, the courts really look at someone trying to adopt a child that will be an adult in another year. They look for motive.

So if your aunt is serious, she needs to hurry up before you turn 18.

Ok first of all,

you would not have to give up your student visa,

the requirements for adoption are if you are over the age of 10 or 12 you will have to sign a contract saying that you are okay with this decision. Also, you must not have any parents or guardians that can take care of you, also, you god parents must be dead or ill for you to be adopted.
it is not difficult

I would assume you would have to give up your Visa. The process is kind of tedious..but call a charitable home study agency and they may be able to help you further. I've done an international adoption - not domestic.

i think you are better off with
consulting with a lawyer
its a very delicate process
i have an adopted brother.

Talk to a lawyer. Or look up one in a phone book and ask them. = )
