Where can I find adoption records in Michigan? |
My Grandfather was adopted by his stepfather. We do not know for sure when this took place but we do know that it took place in Michigan (we are thinking in Detroit) and my Grandfather was born in 1921 so it was sometime within the next 5 years of that! Anyone know where I can call to see about getting copies of the records from the adoption? michigan bureau of vital statistics In all places I know of, adoption records are sealed and not open to the public. You may be outta luck. Your best bet would be to contact vital statics in your area to see what you do/do not have the right to view. almost without exception, adoption records will be sealed. I found one from 1868 once, in a land record book, but I consider that a total fluke. County clerk's office where he was adopted might or might not. |
