Should the British Government force the Catholic Adoption Agency to hand over children to sexual perverts?

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

Unmarried cohabiting couples, whether heterosexual or homosexual, are living in sin.

The issue at hand is that Catholic adoption agencies in the England and Wales handle about one-third of all private adoptions.

The Catholic Church regularly matches orphans with married (heterosexual) couples. People who are living as our religion believes God intended.

There is a new law taking effect in April that says that the adoption agencies will have to place children with homosexual couples.

Catholics believe that not only it is not in the best interest of the child to place them in an environment of immorality and sin that if they follow the law then they themselves will be sinning in the process.

Catholic doctors are not forced to perform abortions. Catholic prison workers are not forced to execute prisoners. Catholics are not forced to commit what they believe to be sinful acts in any other part of society.

No more than they should restrict the rights of misinformed idiots to post questions online. I believe you will find they are only looking at same sex couples and adoption. Last time I checked we don't condone handing kids to any kind of sexual pervert. As a Catholic I think its appalling that they will try to force this issue. This is what happens when you don't have a written constitution and a government that does as it pleases.

The row in question is over gay adoption and they may be statistical deviants, but few people would call them "sexual perverts".

I'm not aware of any mass sexual interference of kids by gay couples.... so i assume you must be refering to CATHOLIC PRIESTS!!!

No they should not. They should however attempt to persuade the Catholic Adoption Agency to reconsider allowing same sex couples to adopt as these nice gay and lesbian parents will keep the kids safe from the horrible sexual perverts out there.

I am not sure what you mean by this question. Are you inferring that homosexuals are perverts because if you are then some people would disagree with you..
With regard to the present furore regarding Gay adoption I think that Gays should open up their own adoption agency. That would then settle the matter because then people who are putting a child up for adoption could then choose where the child goes. A homosexual home or a heterosexual home. What could be fairer?

to be honest when gays came to decide on their sexuality then they shouldve realised that they could not have children with another adult of the same sex people do understand they cannoit have the currant and the bun , so why do gays beleive they should? also its a pity they cannot i would rather a gay couple adopt than a peadophile couple but the thing is where does the kid stand in this, they already for whatever reason lost the connection with their blood parents (obviously a male and a female) to live in a same sex household i think it would be traumatic, the adoption agencies do their best to put children with families that have the same cultures/colours and religion as the childs parents had, so is this rule also going to be bent because of the "im gay" revolution? if gays care enough about children to want to adopt then they ought to take into consideration the long term affects their lifestyle will have on them

The Catholic Adoption Agency, when all is said and done, is attempting to place these children with families which their natural parents would have approved of, i.e. stable couples in a normal marriage relationship, so that they can receive a Catholic upbringing. What is scandalous is that such an agency is forced to the ground at a time when many children in need of adoption cannot be placed by beleaguered local authorities because their funds can't run to placing them http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jht... Meanwhile human beings are being neglected and the situation can only be worsened by the obdurate attitude of the authorities. Whatever the circumstances of the birth of these children, some respect should be given to the wishes of their parents. Where the law does not permit this -- then the law should be amended.

The only argument in favour of allowing the government to force this is the human right of no discrimination.

Firstly, the gays are not being discriminated against because they are gay per se - single gays can and do adopt through Catholic agencies. It is the LIFESTYLE of gay couples' houses that the Church thinks is unsuitable for children. Many people agree and they aren't branded homophobes.

Secondly, there is a competing human right of freedom of religion. By definition, religions have rules which must be followed by their members. If you take away the right of Catholics to enforce their (let's face it, well-known) rule against gay parenting, you are effectively removing their human right in favour of the gays' human right.

In cases where two human rights conflict like this, it's neccessary to look at the balance of convenience - ie if the decision were to go against one side, how badly would that affect them? If the gays were to lose, they would still be referred to other agencies by the Catholic ones so they don't really suffer much harm. But if the Catholic agencies couldn't refuse gay couples, they would have to either (a) go against their fundamental religious beliefs of (b) close down, which is more likely. A much more harmful effect, I think!

Also - doctors are allowed to refuse to perform abortions if they have an objection based on religious or moral grounds. How is that different?

The legal argument is in fact, that the government passed a law which means you cannot discriminate in providing any services. This if taken to extreme, would mean that priests would have to provide communion etc to non-Christians if they wanted. The law is clearly absurd and more importantly, is probably open to challenge anyway. For laws cannot be inconsistent with the European Convention on Human Rights - which guarantees religious freedom.

The law simply must allow religious freedom. I do not understand why the past few years Christians (not just Catholics) have had to battle to retain their few rights. It smacks of oppression and it's about time the people stood up to an overly-PC government.

Perhaps if the Cabinet Members who opposed the Catholic Adoption Societies exemption would declare their sexual orientation this might be revealing. No doubt they won't as it is against their Human Rights, same as Cherie and her 'freebies'.

The sooner the better, judging by past events within the RC church.
