Hypothetical Question: If I gave up a son for adoption...? |
If I give up a son/daughter for adoption and he/she is adopted by a single mom, could she in turn come after me for reckless abandonment of my child and in turn have to pay Child Support for the very child I gave up for adoption? I placed a child up for adoption in 2005 and at the time i did , the birthfather and myself had to sign a paper terminating our parental rights to that child. In order to place a child up for adoption you HAVE to relinquish your rights. So from that moment on we were in no way legally or financially liable for the baby. The adoptive parent/parents have sole responsibility of the child legally and financially at that point. A parent that gives a child up for adoption can not be sought for child support. You give up all rights as a parent when you give them up. A release for adoption could not be deemed reckless abandonment. Not if you have followed the law! i dont have laws or preidents but i have also never herd it happening its hard to adopt a child you have to be finacially set and further more child support brings rights back to the paying parent. No to all of your questions. The minute you give up a child for adoption your parental rights are terminated and so are your responsibilities. Funny you would ask this question with a name like "John Q" was that not the movie that he was willing to do what ever it took to keep his kid, including killing himself. No. Once the child is adopted you no longer "exist" in his/her world. And the child no longer "exists" in your world. Can't find any laws though. No, they can't, the paperwork is very specific. Find a Liberal enough judge and I guess anything is possible. |
