Step-Parent Adoption: Affidavit of Diligent Search? |
I live i Florida. I am in the process of doing a step parent adoption for my daughter and husband. I am fulfilling out the affidavit of diligent search, and I am wondering if I should include the search results when I submit my paperwork to the courts? Or are they going to take my word on the results I report? The affidavit is in lieu of the actual details of the diligent search. It should be short and to the point. A typical affidavit of diligent search should be about one page. One paragraph states who you are; paragraph two states why you are submitting the affidavit; the third paragraph gives a brief summary of how you searched and the final paragraph states: "Despite all efforts as described herein I was unable to locate ______________." In summary, they will take your word for it. If you file a false affidavit, the biological father can move to set aside the adoption. Therefore, the Court accepts the affidavit as true and correct. |
