How long will someone generally get put in jail for reckless homicide and child abuse?

a friend at my university was arrested friday for reckless homicide and child abuse for her newborn baby. apparently, she didn't realize that she was pregnant and gave birth at home during christmas break and brought the dead baby to the gyno office... though, for the whole previous semester, there was debate as to whether or not she was pregnant because she had gotten so big in the tummy area. i've read in some papers that there was inflicted wounds on the baby and i know she shouldve have just gone to the hospital and given birth and then given the baby up for adoption. what she did was wrong... i'm not condoning any of it. but, she was a friend and never was a bad person, friendly to everyone, and it was never expected from her. she's currently in jail and her bail is set for $75,000... she has no previous charges and was a all around good girl. i know everyone will say she's terrible, but, more than anything i'm praying for that baby. what do yall think will happen??

also... she gave birth dec 20th. i'm assuming she dropped the baby off during the day when the office was open but then it could've been in the night?... a lot of information hasn't been released yet. of course this is all none of my business, but it's hard when you knew this person, they lived across from you, etc. i just dont know what to think.........

Depends on the state. If I was on the jury it would be the max!!

My guess would be life in prison, with or without the possibility of parole if she is over 18.

Some mental problems seems to be here too. Most likely she will just get mental treatment under court order. She needs understanding and a fine lawyer. Good luck. Keep us informed.

Hey, I'm sorry about what's going on, but I doubt anyone here is going to be able to answer your question unless your lucky and a lawyer that specializes in that field happens to see your question. I'd reccomend you see if you can find any information online such as a federal law or state law page that might let you know what the laws are for those charges. Then you might at least get the minimum maximum sentences. I personally have no idea what she'll get, but I imagine she'll probably see some time in jail for the reckless homicide, and if it's found she may be a danger to her child she'll probably lose custody permanantly. But I'm not expert all this is my guesswork.
