Is it illegal for a person to adopt kids and use the money from the adoption for themselves and not the kids?

i know someone who adopted 3 kids and gets 2400 dollars a month and has no job and sits in the house all day and has a brand new sportscar, brand name purses and expensive stuff, this is not right, any way to file a lawsuit please tell me and give me some information so i can kno, numbers anything please

ok, im admitting, i am the child that is in the predicament, my foster mother gets 2400 dollars for my sisters and i, but she do not take care of us, she still lives with her mother and mi grandmother takes care of us and pays the bills, and mortgage, mi foster mother is also my aunt. but she doesnt treat us right, i havent been to the doctor or dentist in 2 years and she goes out almost every night and doesnt care, she always complain about not having no money but she dont have a job but gets all this money and complains about everything but dont give us anything, i know that this is not right and im not dumb, i have ways to prove it.

Unfortunately thats what a lot of people do.

yes it is, but hard to prove and very unfair for the kids invovled

You don't get money for adoption in any jurisdiction I know. You do get a payment for fostering children; and in many European countries and Canada you get child allowances for all minor children in your care, biological or adopted or fostered.

The money is intended to defray the costs of raising children. But I know of no jurisdiction that actively enforces that principle and that would prevent the recipient from spending the money and s/he pleases. On the other hand, it's hard to "make a profit" on the subsidy paid: kids are expensive to raise.

You don't know for a fact that this person is using that money for the car and other expensive stuff.

She could be working at home. Or she could have been the beneficiary of a large inheritance.

Or maybe she (or her family) are independently wealthy. Maybe she's a trust-fund baby.

You just don't know. So I wouldn't jump to any conclusions if I were you.

And $2,400 a month is not a lot -- not enough to be buying sports cars and the other expensive things you mention.

Do the kids look like they're being neglected? If not, I'd mind my own business if I were you.

oh gosh I know a lady who does that, she has 3 kids too and she gets more money when she has a troubled adolescent but its not illegal as long as the parent isnt abusive and is feeding, clothing them and making sure they go to school

People do not get money when they adopt a child, they do if the child is disabled or if they are just foster parents. How do you know this? Make sure you know for sure and then call the local child welfare agency.

Its not illegal, its more of a moral issue. As long as the kids are being feed and clothe with a roof over the heads, child services is not going to make a big deal about it. unless the kids arent receiving basic things like clotes food and going to school.

People don't get money for adopting children. MYOB!

if theyre getting money theyre not adopting kids..theyre taking them in as foster care...the only money parents kid for adopting is basically free health insurance...but yes most people do that unfortunatly..its one of the main reason that people take in foster children...luckily i babysit for a lady who has a special needs foster child and she uses the money for his benefits..world needs more people like them

so what you are saying is the kids are not fed, dressed, not medically taken care of and are not being taken to school?
and i'm lost.....how does anyone get paid to adopt kids? i know foster parents get a check from the state for housing foster kids....but adopting kids takes on full legal and financial responsibilty? If the kids are being neglected...call Child Protective Services.

That is awful, If she is getting money for the kids it's becuz they are in a special needs catagory (physical and health issues, emotional and behavorial issues). I know becuz I have been doing a lot of research about adoption and foster care, becuz this is something that I am interested in doing, not foster care, but adoption, If all goes well for me I will be doing it for the child not the money. There are a lot of children out their who needs help.

If you are being neglected, you should contact the local Child Protective Services and tell them you are "at risk". You can also talk to a school teacher if you know one you trust, a school counsellor if you have one at your school, or your doctor.

Once reported, your home will be visited and an assessment made of the care you are receiving.

You call her your foster mom and then you say she adopted you. It depends on which of these are accurate as far as what you can do. If she adopted you, then there is little you can do unless she is actively abusing or neglecting you. You would have to get her to put you back into the foster care system. If you are in foster care still, then you can contact your social worker, your attorney or the judge presiding over your case to have yourselves moved.
