What is the best and least costly way to get information about an adoption that took place 50years ago?

I just want to know my birth mother's name and if I have any other siblings.

Start with your birth certificate. The most important information is what county, state, and hospital you were born. That is where you search should start. That information will be uniform on any birth certificate. Odds are the hospital will not release your birth mom's name, but they could point you in the right direction.

From the information you gather, search public records online and by telephone to the hospital and department of health of the county you were born. Getting her name should be fairly simple. It's sad to say, but she would be rather elderly at this point so search death records to see if she is still alive. Finding her may take a paid service, like a PI, if she led an anonymous life.

As for siblings, that may be more difficult. Your best bet is to find your birth mom first and ask her, if that is possible. Basically, become an amateur PI. Track her movements as best you can and gather information as you go. Anything that is public record (death certificates, marriages, foreclosures, etc.) will help you. Use the internet, library, and your telephone and you should be able to piece it all together.

Best of luck to you.

try Luthern social services

Go back to the agency that handled the adoption... In my case I had to go back to catholic social services... they did the search for me and found my bio parents... which pretty much means they just looked in the file and called the last known number for my biomom.
