I lost my drivers liscence for not paying child support?

I just found out i had a 4 year old so last year. I pay 300 a month in child support. The mother of the child wanted her husband to adopt the child, and i was fine with that since the child didnt know me, etc.

The adoption was finalized a few months ago. However, the mother of the child didnt infor the Child Support Enforcement that her husband adopted the child, so they are still billing em child support. I havent paid it, because im not supposed to anymore, Now my drivers Lisecnce has been revoked, and i lost my job because i wcould drive there.

The mother of the child was supposed to send me a copy of the adoption finaliztation, but she never has. I calle dher lawayer, and have left messages, but they never call me back. What am i supposed to do? The Child Support Enforcemetn agency says the only way they can stop the child support is if i give them a copy of the adoption papers,. But how to i do that if they never gave me a copy? Will tehy give me my lisecene back too?

Did you sign something or go to court? It sounds fishy that her lawyer is not calling you back. Are you sure it went through? Her lawyer would have insisted that you recieve a copy for many legal reasons. You could have the whole thing ruled invalid and have a bargaining chip. She as well maybe didn't inform anybody to cause you issues and maybe get money. Just a thought.

Yes of course if you can go to the courthouse and pull up the paperwork. First do not pay a dime at this point. Talk to a lawyer which usually costs nothing the first time. Even if he just makes a few calls on your behalf it should cost next to nothing.

This could get complex. So write down dates, times and what was said even if you leave a message. You lost your job? And usually it takes some time to do the license suspension thing and proof has to be shown..... so if you stopped paying for say a few months much has to be shown on her part. CPS should be able to provide this info. Something sounds wrong here.

get a copy of the court records showing the adoption. Those are public records and you can walk in and ask for a copy for 10- bucks or so.

I do hope someone helps you, I don't know what you can do, but there has to be someone whom you can contact, like citizens advice or something like that, you might need a lawyer, however, I wish you luck!

Edit: looks like you got some sound advice from beachbum, cool.

just a question..did you stop paying altogether or did you only stop paying the current support..you might have lost your license if you stopped paying on any back support but definitely contact a lawyer

You should probably get a lawyer, and if I were you, I'd sue the baby's mamma after I got it all straightened out.
