What are you views on abortion in regards to rape? |
i could never decide "yes" or "no" or abortion in regards to rape, but think about it. do you want that child to be born? do you want that child to have the same genes of a rapist? can you imagine once the child grows up and looks the mother in the eye and the child looks EXACTLY like the man that raped her? many people say put it up for adoption, but there are millions of kids who are put up for adoption and never adopted.......they are forced to live in horrible foster homes and orphanages........do you think the women can go to the pain of rape, much less abortion, much less delivering the child in the same area she was raped nine months before? (and that "area" might still bear physical pain from the rape) A pregnancy by force is nothing to be happy about. Generally such a child brought into the world would be a constant reminder of the never-ending pain the mother has to endure. I'm pro choice so naturally I feel the decision rests with the woman who is pregnant. At the same time a fail to understand how someone who professes to be pro life because there is an unborn innocent child involved (their view) would support exceptions for rape. There's a huge inconsistency there. There is documented proof that a baby conceived from a rape can live a perfectly normal life, as can the mother, whether she keeps the baby or not. That said, there are examples of what you are illustrating as well. It really depends. If a person is pro-choice, I don't guess the answer would change, "Let the mother do what she wants to do". There are no rape genes. Rape is a learned behavior from other men who are rapists, from a society that permitts or tolerates certain behaviors like this, blames the victims, doesn't prosecute the criminals, etc etc etc. It's a learned behavior period. Aggression is inborn and is more likely in certain groups. Aggressive people are more likely to rape. However, plenty of or most aggressive people don't rape. They play sports, or whatever. So no, rape is not inherited. The only person guilty of rape is the rapist. The only reason rape should come up in regards to the child is to be sure the rapist doesn't get any legal rights to the baby. If the rapist or his family raised the baby, THEN you'd have to worry that they baby would grow up to have the wrong ideas about rape. To say it's ok to abort a baby in cases of rape is to say that a baby created this way is guilty or has no right to be born. That baby is an innocent human life. In addition, if one is saying abortion is not ok except in cases of rape, what one is saying is that a woman should only have a child if the father is a good person, especially her husband, and has a legal right to claim the child. So what this says is abortion is all about whether a there's a man in the child's life to claim it. And that's nonsense. The right to life shouldn't be some war against women's rights. It should be strictly in favor of the right of human life to be born. I struggle with this also. And incest. I am pro-life but to me this is a gray area. This is a very personal question for me because i am 16 and currently pregnant from a rape. A month and a half ago i was raped, but never told anyone about it. When the pregancy test results were positive 4 times...i started to think about what i was going to do with the baby. I cringe at the thought of an abortion! It's my own flesh and blood, it's my child, and it's not their fault i was raped! I want to keep the baby, but I am contemplating adoption because many couples who are unable to have children would jump all over the chance at adopting a newborn and i know he/she would be given love and attention. I plan on hiding my pregnancy from my parents until the baby is too developed for an abortion because i think they would make me abort him/her. Just because my child carries a rapists jeans doesn't mean they will turn out corrupted... my baby will have my jeans as well and as long as he/she is brought up correctly, they will end up like any other child. |
