Can I publish a novel based on someone I know?

I am currently writing a novel based on an acquaintence of mine. I found her story of adoption and family particulary fascinating, and my book is very largely based (although I have created my own scenes and changed detalis) on that part of her life. Her character too is largely based on herslef. Is this allowed? It certainly isn't a biography, as a good portion is purely based on my own imagination; but the story as whole largely resembles 'her' story or what i see her story as being. * Her real name and others' are not used.

I think is allowed as long as you don't mention any real names on the contrary you should ask them permission personally and make them sing a release paper

You can as long as you don't give her real name. But I think you better check and get her permission first because she could still sue you if she didn't like what you wrote.

With that person's permission, you can. People "own" what has happened to them in their life, so you do need permission. Sometimes people charge for stuff like this, but if it is a friend, I would assume she wouldn't. Good luck! :-)

If you get her permission, I think it's fine. I'd give her a copy of the finished book as a thank-you present.

I'd get permission to have that published before you do it, just in case. It is allowed but you don't want to trample the rights of the character you are writing about.

Yes, you might want to check with them because if you don't and it comes out and your friend hates it you could lose them as a friend.
