Aside from medical reasons, why do some people wait until late second or third trimesters to have an abortion?

If someone does want an abortion wouldn't it be more correct to have one closer to the beginning of the development? As well, if the person is healthy and has no medical reason and has carried the baby over half term, why not go the extra 16 or so weeks and then give it up for adoption?

For Stopandthink, I am 26 married and having my second baby. I was curious about the differences for a school paper that is due in a few weeks and was looking for some opinions. Why all the caps? You must really feel frustrated about something.

Reality sets in. Many of those late abortions are under the age of 18 - and without parental consent. At that age, they tend to think 'if I ignore it, it will go away.' Once reality starts to settle in, they feel it, weight gain, belly bigger - they can't deny it and rather than face it - they abort it. Very, very sad - many of these young girl's parents would support them if they'd known!

Because people are selfish and don't want to face the consequences of their actions.

Maybe it took them that long to realize that they didn't want to go through with it....very very sad situation.

In some cases the father just leaves the women, and they are left alone. Jerks.

it's true, that would make more sense. but life doesn't always make sense and it is a personal decision with obstacles and consequences. each story is different.

SOME people can't DECIDE! You have to UNDERSTAND!

IF they did NOT want children... They would have done a better JOB in the FIRST PLACE!!!

OK... didin't have a '$' for a 'device'!? (I'll still Bet 'someone' spent 'some $" to make sure it was a 'FUN' time...)

Some people HOPE... for whatever reason... GUILT... SHAME... PRIDE... (probably the WORST reason...) THINK they can 'make-it'!

They THINK they 'they' can 'make-it' raising a child! THOSE people think about EATING every day... They don't really THINK about the fact that while 'they' are 'eating', they place they are calling 'home' is an unheated card-board box, or a sewer-cover to keep them warm... the next 'FIX' (whether it's DRUGS, or a 'one-night-stand' that feeds them, and them from freezing for ONE night), will continue to happen... "Tomorrow night, there will be 'another' 'FIX'...

In your question, YOU have 'allowed' for more 'scenerios' than your original question! The longer I think about it, the harder it gets to answer... especially the longer the number of WEEKS gets...

so, here's my answer...

* If you made a mistake... FIX IT! Either get 'rid' of it (I hate to SAY it that way), or get ready to LIVE with it!

** By NOW, you better have made-up your mind! (I'm NOT going to DWELL on it! You DID? You Didn"t? You were RAPED? Whatever?

*** If you haven't decided BEFORE... it's TOO late! You might as well NAME it...

I'm SORRY... this is probably one of the worst answers I've given...
