Abortion question?

is there a way that we can make abortion ILLEGAL, as in, not a choice for women who intentionally got pregnant (aka had sexual relations unprotected or otherwise) but still LEGAL for victims of incest and rape as well as for women whose babies have absolutely no chance of survival past the womb?
that's a law i would really support because i dont believe in abortion as an easy way out-- i DO believe in taking responsibility for our choices, and putting an unwanted child up for adoption is doing just that.

EDIT--- I ABSOLUTELY AGREE that for many people NOT having a child is a responsible decision.
THAT IS WHY we have adoption, why kill a child when you could be providing happiness to one of the thousands of families who desperately WANT children but cannot have them?

Here is an interesting idea; keep abortion legal but convince women not to choose to have one.

Everybody seems so eager to outlaw abortion, but they refuse to tackle the bigger problem of teaching moral responsibility. The big problem is that eventually we will have too many children who are not adopted. This would be a sad state of affairs, but one that could easily happen.

Outlawing abortion will not magically stop abortions from happening; women will just choose other unsafe methods to abort the fetuses. Why put women in danger from these practices? Lets keep the women safe and work on convincing them abortion is not the way to go.

How about a law that requires sexual education courses?

Only in a perfect world. In the real world it will never happen.

It should be a choice for all women just just some.

Wait...a woman who has sexual relations unprotected *or otherwise* is intentionally getting pregnant?

And abortion is not the "easy way out;" it's a difficult and *personal* decision.

Abortion is terimnation of life, just as the same as Murder. Both are the same. To support abortion, you support terminating & ending the life of a child. You should let nature take it's course and let the baby die naturally if it has no chance past the womb. Abortionists (doctors & the mothers who do it) should be punished by LAW for murder. A mother who goes through the abortion.........YOU'RE A DEADBEAT PARENT!

Some states had laws similar to this before the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

I agree that resorting to abortion is typically a sign of lacking responsibility except in cases of rape, incest, or when a mother might suffer bodily harm.

Thats fine that you have your own opinion about abortion but you have no business trying to dictate what someone else has the right to do in their own life. Abortions are not easy decisions for anyone to make and sometimes not having a child is the responsible decision. Everyone who gets pregnant doesn't necessarily make a irresponsible choice when they get pregnant even outside of rape and incest. Its sounds all warm and fuzzy, "they'll just all put these babies up for adoption and go on their merry way" ! Thats very idealistic but not a reality for many women! Do you have any experience here or are you just wearing those rose colored glasses George W. likes to hand out?

Not really.

As defined, reproductive choice is a fundamental right, which means that the govt is very limited in terms of the restrictions that can be applied to it.

If that constitutional protection is eliminated, then ANY laws can be passed regulating abortion. It can can be forbidden entirely, it can be allowed any some or all circumstances -- it could even be made mandatory, like in China.

Once the constitution protections are gone -- the majority can enact any law they want. And change it as often as they want. That's why the constitutional protections are so important.

They protect your right to have the child as much as they protect someone else's right to not have the child.

I think it is because we have no common ground. The pro-lifers (me) vs. the pro-abortionists, are too divided on this issue to seek a common ground.

I know, the statement I just made is a broad one but, it is a truthful one.

I too, am repulsed by abortion as a form of birth control and in the name of "oopsie"! That is selfishness to the max! For goodness sake, once conceived, there is life growing inside the womb. Call that life whatever you may! It is still life! To abort, well...to me, it is legal murder of the innocent.

Roe vs. Wade really changed alot of things. One of the biggest changes, division amongst ourselves. Furthermore, I believe it has helped to create a loss, for the value of a human life!

Yeah, right !!

I don't get it. Why do you oppose abortion? I don't believe that it's simply because you want women to take personal responsibility. That argument would be like saying that you don't think people who smoke should get lung cancer surgeries or that people who eat too much should get heart bypasses.

Again, I'm confused. You clearly don't think abortion itself is bad or wrong because you proposed to keep the procedure legal under certain circumstances. If you believed that abortion takes an innocent human life, you probably wouldn't want to keep it legal under any circumstances. At least I'd HOPE so. So, if it's not murder, then what's your problem with abortion exactly? It sounds like you're just moralizing and controlling and not concerned at all with the ethics behind abortion or individual liberties. Simply not approving a person's selfishness or recklessness isn't and shouldn't be grounds for interfering in her life.

I'm pro-life because abortion is murder and I don't make exceptions for that because it's always murder in every case. It's not 'less murderful' or something because of the circumstances of the child's conception. Please reconcile this inconsistency.

I absolutely agree with you. If you can get pregnant, you can carry the baby for 9 mos and give it the life it deserves by placing it with a loving family.

There are several easier ways to end fertilization after rape or unwanted sexual encounters. the morning after pill, or a cervix flush (all performed at ER. by physician) to rid her womb of seminal fluid....(no heartbeat present yet)
I think the reason women don't utilize these proven methods is because they were NOT raped or otherwise. They wait to see if they are pregnant, then they are scorned or embaressed by family and friends, then decide to cry "rape". now a fetis has been produced....(heartbeat present) an opt for an abortion.
I think the only time a mother can kill their kids is when they become screw-ups in society. the theory of...."she brought you in this world, she can take you out!"

how about no. taking away a woman's right to choose can and will have dire consequences.

and for the record, abortion is never the easy way out, no matter what the reasons are for choosing abortion.

Of course, a law could be written that only allowed abortion in certain instances. However, I think that the only exception should be to save the life of the mother--a very, very rare occurrence. Children should not face capital punishment because their fathers are rapists.

If a rape exception were created, then there would have to be criteria to meet before an abortion could be performed--perhaps a police report. Otherwise, many women would claim to be raped just to have an abortion.

why do I always hear that there are loving families wiill adopt your kid.

At present, adoption centers are flooding with unadopted child usually children w/ color. Probably you should put that in your chart.

Abortion is not an easy decision. This country should respect the freedom choice of women and their rights. Your belief is not EVERBODY's belief. Making abortion illegal has awful consequences resulting to more deaths because of unsterile illegal abortions .

How could a women who has been raped and got pregnant carry that baby to full term?
The psychological ramifications would be dire.
