Helen Beasley Surrogacy case - what happened with the case? |
In 2001, there was a lawsuit in CA where a surrogate from England sued the future parents (lawyers) who broke their contract by demanding she abort one of the twins she carried after the agreed upon time. Does anybody know what the final determination was? She was seeking to end their rights and put the children up for adoption. Yep, I know the law is developing. My state doesn't support surrogacy although they have no laws against it. But, in this case, the couple clearly broke their contract by insisting on a reduction past a time when it is safe (would have been at least 14 weeks when she would have had to have it). The above answerer is correct. What I would add it that this situation arose because this is an evolving area of the law. Yet another one of those cases that gets splashed over the headlines but nobody bothers to follow up. |
