The Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams says the adoption of Islamic Sharia law in the UK is "unavoidable".

Dr Williams told BBC Radio 4's World at One that the UK has to "face up to the fact" that some of its citizens do not relate to the British legal system.

He says Muslims should not have to choose between "the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty".

Dr Williams argues that establishing Sharia law in the UK would help maintain social cohesion.

Regretably, he did not apply his mind when he uttered these words. One law for Muslims - what about laws for Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, Buddhists, Athiests, etc. It is dividing UK. And will he approve and accept stoning to death for adultery, physical relationship, - a common feature in Western countries? Please remind him that crime has no religion.

It is pacifistic reasoning like that, that leads to the decay and destruction of a culture. Please, leave us not forget who the immigrants are and whose culture they need to adapt to. We here in the US, are under going a similar invasion and culture clash with Hispanics. The reason being , an overwhelming dedication to political correctness. Not wanting to offend the offenders leads only to capitulation and encourages the wrong end.No, I don't agree with him and the time will come when the British people get feed up with the tolerance and fear of the fundamentalist Islamic influence, and put a foot down. They will either do this, or fade into oblivion as a culture.

Unless the Brits stop being so P.C. and get a backbone back, yes it is unavoidable. I almost cry at the thought of how a once great place like Britian has fallen so low as to let barbarians take over. I am not an advocate on the anti-imigration argument at all, but it is impossible to have two legal systems running side by side, as there is are glaring contradictions between the systems and their relative values.

We need to have one law because we're one country. Sharia law is imposed by islamic states and since islam is and always will be a minority religion in this country it can never be used in this country. People setting up their own courts should be treated like any other vigilantes.

Anyone given British citizenship has to take an oath of allegiance to the Crown. The implication is that the person swearing will abide by our justice system and comply with our laws. We cannot possibly have a several tier system. If Muslim citizens are not prepared to obey the same laws as the rest of us, then they should go elsewhere, where they can lead a full Muslim life and do things their own way. By stating that the adoption of Sharia law is inevitable, the Archbishop is shrugging his shoulders and giving up. How much better had he come up with a list of reasons why Sharia law must be resisted in the UK! As an Archbishop of Canterbury, he is deeply disappointing.

Remember that he was Blair's political appointee to his job, so why wouldn't he have his benefactor's interests at heart to further sell the country down the river.

Just because you are of a different culture doesnt mean that you cant adapt to fit the culture of your new home land. Its bloody ridiculous that we continue to positively discriminate. So allowing muslims to chose between a muslim court and an english court. How is that going to work? Say one court gives one side a remedy and the other gives the otehr party a remedy, who will hear the case if the parties cant agree? Secondly will it work in reverse? what if under Sharia law a christian or atheist party can get a remedy and cant under english law? Will the christian party be allowed to have their case heard in the sharia court? No i didnt think they would. Sounds like another step to self discrimination if you ask me. What other developed countries have different legal systems for different cultures? None. Why? because one rule for one and one for another does nothing. This move does nothing to further the notion of equality that people seem to be forgetting that that is what we are aiming for, despite it being clouded by the haziness of political correctness and fear of persecution for being a racist. This would do nothing but further divide the cultures.

I'm glad he said it. Everytime comments like this are made, they contribute to the huge explosion of atheism and anti-religious feeling in Britain. It is much more likely now that the Church will be dis-established and religious special privileges ended, thanks largely to Dr Williams and the Muslim Council of Britain. So, carry on, Dr Williams!
