What is the maximum age at which someone can be adopted in Scotland?

Under Scottish law when does a person (who isn't married) become too old to be adopted?

If adoption isn't possible due to age then what other options are there other than changing surnames?

How would next-of-kin rights be secured?

Any help really appreciated!!!
