First and foremost my rights do not come from the military.
The military itself is non democratic and while those within its organizations are individually ruled under Admiralty Law it is Constitutional Law that governs the ACTIONS of that body.
My actions outside of that body are governed under Constitutional Law and my obligations are only to Constitutinal Law.
The military gave me nothing but the obligation given to the military by the Constitution was to Protect That Constitution.
My Rights do not come from the military nor the Constituion but are outside of either of their influences.
They both serve to defend those rights.
What is owed to the past for sacrifices made by men defending those rights is a choice of character not mandated.
Since the beginning of Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts the attack upon those rights have increased with a proportional increase in rhetoric about how military is protecting those rights.
Not so for the military is protecting itself today! "My kind of loyalty was to ones country-not to its institutions or office holders. the country is the real thing, the substantial thing, the eternal thing, it is the thing to watch over and care fro, and be loyal to; insittuions are extraneous, they are its mere clothing, and clothing can wear out, cease to be comfortable, cease to protet the body from winter and death."
Mark Twain
You see I learned from a winner and a real patriot not loud mouths who never will because they read jingos and spout dogma instead of learning from their past.
Its called history and while it is not always pretty and does not go just the way you think it was it is still the truth.
Too bad some cannot take or understand it and rely upon jingos, dogma and demigogues instead.
My courage has been tested, found true towards my fellow soldiers and nation The ending sentence to the comments above answers the question!
At this point in time in the conflicts within these two countries, America, physically finds itself defending the global image of the mightiest nation on earth. The principle of freedom has surpassed the boundaries of the Constitution of the United States and has encountered a religion based jihad against the Western culture. We are now defending ourselves from the Muslim cultural perception against Christianity. The fervor does not reside on the same mentality, not the same view, not the same reasons anymore. Our recourse is to be able to maintain religious freedom for ourselves and globally, to keep at bay and preferrably regionally, the outpouring of terror attacks, the capacity for greater global warring. The rhetoric does not confront the real issue and tends to mislead and divide the populace. Our liberties are at stake. Except you've lost no rights.. not a single one. And the people who are protecting your worthless *** ( and your right to whine ) are in the military, or some other government agency. You just answered your own question! Do you know what a sophomore is. I do. I think I just responded to his question. Correct, your rights do not come from the military. Your ability to posses those rights however do indeed come from the military.
You stated that your rights come not from the military nor the Constitution...where do they come from? You can argue all day long that certain rights are there for all humans but we all know that is not the case. The Constitution laid out the rights that we as citizens should expect to have and our military defends the Constitution and thereby the citizens of the country. In essence the military that "gave me nothing" is the military that gives you everything.
Just a side note: spouting off things of this nature seem like they are written straight from a "How to be a liberal" text book and show no actual thought process on your side. Sorry to come off sounding so harsh but the military is very dear to me and though it has it's faults I'll defend it and the troops until the end. |
