No raise.....:(???? |
My boss is rediculous... For those of you who are being negitive about my spelling, I have a sticky key board and I also have a small amount of Arthritis is my left hand- I type very fast and Does it really matter if I spell EVERYTHING correctly??? Ask him if he would consider giving you some kind of benefit, like maybe a couple days paid vacation? This won't really cost him any more (because the other girl can pick up your job for a day or two) and it will benefit you. :) Most people get a 1-2 % cost-of-living raise each year. So it's not much anyway. Times ARE tough. That's true. Ever wonder if your boss is right? He can't pay you money he doesn't have. Calling him names doesn't improve business or solve any other problems. You signed the contract with a fixed wage rise clause...so you write him a letter asking for it and sue for breach of contract if he doesn't do it. You are an "administrative assistant" who cannot spell RIDICULOUS, GROCERIES, ANNIVERSARY or BECAUSE. You also don't know the difference between the words THAN and THEN. And you keep forgetting to use proper punctuation. Lose the attitude, and reapproach your boss. Explain your concerns, and why you feel you are entitled to a raise. You automatically get a 10% raise pursuant to the contract. Wow! Your raise is not based on your performance? Don't compare yourself with your co-worker. Ask if he can at least increase your salary by the cost of living. If he cannot provide you with an increase, consider looking for a job with better pay. If it's in the contract that he agreed to that he would give you a 10% raise on your anniversary, I suggest you get a copy of that contract. Show him the contract and tell him that the law requires it. Here's what could happen: 1. you quit, nothing else 2. he fires you, you sue him for breaking work contract Believe me, many people are going through this. I have not received a raise in two years. My husband did not receive a raise and I told him to just be thankful that he has a job right now and is bringing home a check. He later received a 25 cent raise, which is nothing and doesn't cover the increase in living, but your boss is right. Times are tough and once they start picking back up, hopefully they will make up for the raise you did not receive. i would say talk to him about what is on your contract I feel your pain, and his too. If you truly have a legally binding contract, your boss HAS to give you a raise per the requirements in your contract. He may be telling you the truth. Things are difficult for everyone, not just you. And you might want to watch your attitude or you will be without a job! It's best to just go with the flow. If you don't want to work there, then find something else..... IF you can. I've been through this. It stinks. 10% on your anniversary date!!! Wow! Be careful, he coul give you the raise but cut out other benefits that are not in the contract. or he could just downsize and you have nothing. no one at my company has got a raise in 3 years. Call the department of labor jobhunt. Real estate business is bad. if its in your contract than he has to give it to you. take it to court. Cry me a river. Find a new job. you should find a union job...my income doubled in 3 yrs.. now making 29.08hr.. full benefits.. Ive been in similar situations and unfortunately the ONE thing you cant really argue is if they tell you they simply cant afford it. You have a choice between finding someone who CAN afford to pay you what you're worth, or seeking an alternative method of compensation for your work. One thing is for sure, you should never be afraid of getting fired for asking for what was promised to you or what you deserve. If you can find conclusive proof that your contributions to the company have directly resulted in added profits that would offset your raise, you may have a bargaining chip - otherwise, you MAY consider asking for more vacation time in lieu of a raise until things pick up. You can use that extra time to make money somewhere else. Either way, you'll have to confidently approach your boss and talk about it otherwise you'll continue to resent working there and it will affect your morale. Before you go in to talk about it, be prepared with what you're willing to accept as alternative forms of compensation and make sure you highlight your performance as a reason for the raise and NOT the contract or the time you've been working there. Ha, if he is in real estate right now he might be broke right now too. But I doubt it. He's probably rolling in the dough. Yeah, these are hard economic times and they're only gonna get worse over the next year. Hopefully, there will be a recovery. But the problem is that in the meantime, businesses who are still making decent profits are now starting to pass the costs down to consumers. I recently saw that a major chemical company's profits went down from 9% to 6.6%. And that is still a pretty good profit margin considering that will still net them over a billion dollars. So why do they raise their prices and pass the costs down to consumers even if they are profiting in hard economic times? Because they can. Consumers rarely band together and collectively challenge them. Believe me, I lived in Florida and I have seen how the upper 1% lives. They rarely feel any effects of a weak economy because their money is constantly building expotentially from investments and interest on their trust funds. They live like absolute modern day kings. Meanwhile, the gap between the rich and the poor is widening rapidly and wages are stagnant. Can your boss afford to give you a raise? I am not sure because I don't know the exact circumstances. But if he can afford to give you a raise you probably should search for other employment. There are good companies out there. You just have to find them. It's hard, I know. I've recently been trying to find a good employer to work for too. you need to confront your boss with a copy of the contract. if he refuses you can sue for a raise and back pay. that is breach of contract and you do have rights in that situation. Start saving. I'd say go to court!! he is a prick |
