Manager playing favorites, fear of job security, etc!!!? |
I work in a restaurant and I have a GM and 3 Assistant managers. My duties as the Administrative Assistant are being given to this girl that everyone thinks he is sleeping with and she is getting paid $3 more an hour. He also is great friends with this other girl who he has known for 7 years. He lets them 2(they are just servers)do whatever they want, & he even gives manager duties & my duties to them & doesn't even tell us he's doing it. The one girl that we think he is sleeping with pretty much screws with people and gets them fired. She is gunning for my job as well. My manager is really rude to all the employees & even other managers except for those 2 girls. He tells them "Good job, Thank You" & all the rest of us get nothing. I am supposed to have an office key, & I don't but she does(for what?). I have no idea what to do. I talked to some corporate trainers and they said I should go to my OD, who is above my GM. I'm afraid it will backfire & the situation will get worse. HELP!!! The best thing to do is to write every incident down with dates and exactly what happened who was there that witnessed it and so on. Unless you are a contracted employee, and your employer breached that contract, you probably have little legal recourse for anything that happens. This could be a serious legal situation in terms of sexual harassment and equal employment opportunity. I would expect a good attorney to listen to your story -- ideally in a no-charge first-time consultation -- and make a recommendation on how to proceed. You'll have to be able to separate the emotions from the legally relevant facts, but on the face of it, this isn't just a "why can't we all get along problem"; it seems to me that the management of this restaurant is legally vulnerable if they don't fix the situation. Sadly, there are times, when you are caught in a legitimate check-mate. If you want to change the situation, you may have to depart. The company may only be interested in taking action where there is a measurable loss occurring. The loss of personnel is not something that is easy to quantify as a loss. tricky situation here. but i would suggest you look at your job description and it's duties. if you received one in black and white, others may also have a copy of theirs. it would remain a safe conclusion that these other 2 women also have copies of their job descriptions. if they are being given duties that are yours, you may want to suggest that your job duties are being relegated or delegated to the wrong person, but do it really tactfully. if you get no resolution, you may have to go to your OD, and bring dates and details to that person. sorry you're in a junk position. either that, or ask your manager NOW for a letter of reference, and make some sort of excuse that you may need to move or something, where you can get it in writing, and use that to get a new job. you may need to get a new job...sorry. |
