I am a USAF Veteran. I was convicted of a Felony 22 yrs ago, now I can't get employment. What are my options?

I have worked as an Administrative Assistant for the past 20 years without having to reveal any criminal history. I have excellent, marketable skills. Now that most organizations are conducting criminal background checks on current and future employees, I don't seem to stand a chance for employment with a substantial salary. I was convicted of Forgery, a first offense and given 2 yrs probation. I have not been in trouble since. How can I have this charge expunged or have the records sealed?

It was 22 years ago and low level enough to only get you 2 years probation.

I know people who have done far worse more recently who have secured jobs with major companies. They disclosed it upfront and eventually were offered jobs. Heck, with what you have you would still qualify for a low level security clearance.

This was a long time ago. I think you might be holding yourself back. You have marketable skills and a long job history so basically you just need to get your foot in the door somewhere. The fact that you are a veteran will go far as well.

Some companies only do a check for a certain amount of years back. Get out there and start applying for jobs.

Goodluck!

go to your local court house and apply through the courts. a judge is gonna have to have a hearing on it and he can expunge it.

You CANNOT EXPUNGED OR SEALED RECORD, your record is considered to be public one so expunged or having the record sealed is unconstitutional. This is unfair for future employers who would conduct investigative work(back ground check) for their potential employees they like to hire. This is the right of the employers to know who or what they are hiring in the first place.

You are convicted of forgery therefore you have a RECORD already in a public archieves. A record like this is absolutely NO WAY TO BE DELETE/EXPUNGE/HIDE/SEALED UNTIL THE END OF TIME. You done something wrong and now you want to hide it to employers. You shouldn't had done a wrong thing in the first place if you do not like a record for future usage.

The only advice I could think of since you already work for 20 years why not just be a businesswoman and be your own boss instead of just applying again to other company which eventually will do a background check on your character, like you say what chances you have for employment with this. So be your OWN BOSS. Why not? Everybody is just putting up business of their own, and be an entrepreneur instead of being just an employee for the rest of their life.
