How to deal with such kind of hassle?

I rented a DVD from video rental, and after hour I returned into self-return slot, but two-week later, I got email I needn鈥檛 return, my late fee reached maximum( new DVD plus administrative fee), I went to the store and ask the surveillant video, they said the didn鈥檛 have. How to contest it?

Under consumer protection laws you have the right to contest the companies decision. Your best route which would not cost you anything, would be to contact your state's Attorney Generals Office and place a complaint against the company with the department of Consumer Affairs. They will investigate the issue, determine if your rights have been violated under the Consumer Protection Act, and rule in favor of either you the plaintiff or the defendant. Also, they will determine what damages you may be due, if they rule in your favor. Which seems to be the case in your matter.

Best of luck.

A library did the same thing to me. I had to pay for the video and a fee, even though I returned it. As in your case, no proof could be produced by them. Just the absence of the video. If I'd felt like going the lawyer route, I could have shown how poorly contructed their return bin was, that it was frequently full up and that anyone could reach into it and take out a book or video. They relied on the honor system rather than security. Unfortunately, it never got that far. I had to pay up.

If this is not the cause in your case, but an internal clerical error, such as forgetting to scan the video back in, then even that case of poor physical return setup couldn't be used as a defense.

You can't. Just "suck up" the late charges, and the next time you return a movie rental, personally take the movie into the store and get a receipt for the return.

I never deposit a movie I have rented into a self-return slot; and, if I have not been satisfied with the movie, I let the movie rental place know.

You could try pleading your case with the owner, if it is mom-and-pop store.

Otherwise, you are probably hosed.
If your credit card got billed for the 'whole shebang', you could dispute the charge with your card company.

Unless the video store relents, cancel your account, and move on.
This will probably just be one of those unfortunate injustices that regularly occur in life.
Sorry.

well for next time make sure to turn your video in in person and make sure they remove it. You are screwed and I cannot think anyway around it. If they have no surveillance then you should try and talk to the owner. Just pay the fine so it does not go to collections.

Cuts your lose and move on to another video rental company...If you used your debit/credit card you can always protest the charges to them...and get the money back...
