Can my employer hold paychecks until a certain time of day?

I work as an administrative assistant for a company with close to 200 employees. I am in charge of processing our payroll and we have our payroll done by ADP. If checks are cashed before Friday morning, we get charged a fee of $25. The business owner has informed me that we are to tell our employees that they can not have their checks until 2pm on friday, when our old policy was friday morning.

Can he legally hold paychecks until a certain time?

Yes.

If your company's posted payday is Friday, then checks must be distributed before the end of an employees regular working hours on Friday. The only people who would be entitled to paychecks before his new 2pm rule would be someone on an early shift who clocks out prior to that - he can't require them to come back to the site after their work hours to get paid.

Richard

yes ,,,they can make the weekly ,monthly pay time any time they want

most places have a payroll account ,,and they do not put the money in the account until the last minute ,,,so they can collect the most interest of the money in the other account

if you cash it early you bounce a check on them

yes he can. as long as you are payed by the end of the day on the scheduled paydate, there is nothing that can be done, especially if there is a new policy in effect about a new time in which the checks are redily available to staff members.

Yes, that is company policy, honey.
As long as everyone is made aware of the policy change it is perfectly legal.

The government doens't legislate when pay checks may be released.

As long as the cheque is issued on the day outlined by the company it is entirely legal.

yes he can...you should opt for direct deposit if they offer it. your check will hit the bank friday mornings.

Yes. As long as there is a consistent policy, it can be changed.

Yes.

yes.
